Civil liberties and rights are very important, and as a candidate running for mayor of Los Angeles I want you to know my stance on LGBT rights.
I support marriage equality. People deserve the right to love whomever they choose and express that love in the same way other Americans can by law. What happens in the bedroom of two consenting adults isn’t and shouldn’t be up to the government, and neither should the expression of love between two people. Americans are Americans regardless of their faith, ethnicity, or sexual orientation, and they should have rights equal to that of any other American.
That means I’m against the Defense of Marriage Act and any measure that would limit marriage to just man and woman or restrict the recognition of legally performed marriages. I support the recognition of legally performed marriages, regardless of if they are between a man and a woman, across state lines.
